Introduction :
- sports are for fun, but they also offer benefits and lessons that carry over into all aspects of life;
- so people do sports because they want to have fun, or to improve their skills, or to be with their friends, or to make new friends, or to succeed or win, or to become physically fit;
- people also like doing sport because sports are about speed, strength, coordination, vision, creativity, and responsiveness - which are very important in a world where competition and survival are very important;

A. Doing Sport Brings Physical Benefits :
a). fitness :
- sport doers develop general physical fitness in a way that is fun;
- and they establish lifelong habits for good health;
b). stress relief :
- sports allow us to clear our minds of academic and social pressures;
- they literally run off the tension that is accumulated in our muscles;
- if I play really hard, I feel better because playing takes my mind off things that bother me;
- and afterwards I can concentrate better;
c). skillfulness or mastery :
- sports give us a satisfying, enjoyable way to develop our own talents;
- through personal effort we get good at something we are interested in;
- and doing something well makes us feel good about ourselves;
- but equally important, sport teaches us about the process of how to improve and work more effectively;

- sports increase an awareness of my body and how it responds to different stimuli and circumstances;
- because of this, sports help prevent drug and alcohol abuse;
- the person who does sport values what his/her own body can do and want to maintain those abilities;

- sports help us learn to distinguish between effort and ability;

- for girls or women ( who, according to the feminist theorist Carol Gilligan, tend to define themselves through their relationships, rather than their achievements, which is boys' appanage ), sports offer another way to make friends and create an alternate peer group;
b). teamwork :
- on a sport's team we learn about cooperation, camaraderie, give-and-take;
- we learn that we do not have to like someone in order to work together towards a common goal;
- we also discover that we can work for people that we might not respect and still be productive, improve our skills, and have fun;
