A TRUE friend is someone we treasure , someone we turn to when we feel down and someone who understand us better than anyone can. A TRUE friend is our shoulder when we cry, someone who catches our tears, and someone we lean on. A TRUE friend holds you up when you are weak, always there through thick and thin, never hesitates to help you with all your problems, and always say ILL BE THERE even if you're miles apart..

Biletul 11 importance of friendship in one’s life

Mesajde tisha934 pe Mar Mai 06, 2008 5:57 pm

“True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity, before it is entitled to the appellation.”
George Washington

In all that talking with the teen-agers from all over the world, the most frequent thing is friendship. In our days we assist very often at negative forms of friendship manifestation, from the most exteriorized ways to the most expressed in vulgarly language.
Friendship is a human characteristic, fact visible even by Aristotle (even before Epicurus), who presumed that “nobody can live without friends, even if he/she has all the fortunes in the whole world.”
Friendship is also a manifestation form of self knowledge, a capacity of the human being to refer him self on others. Of course, the human kind must look at themselves, inside and outside, like in a mirror, not in one deceptive kind of way, but who reflects correctly his personality, without misrepresenting it, one way or another, underneath one appearance or another...
True friendship is based on mutual confidence and spirit of sacrifice. It’s distinguished by devotion and by respecting the given word.
Those are the most common tips of how to be a true friend: treat your friends the way you want to be treated... keep secrets that are told to you... pay attention when your friend is talking with you... keep your promises... share things with your friend, don’t be a selfish person... always tell your friend the true... and stick up for your friend.
August the 3rd is the International Friendship Day for most of the nations in the world, time to recognize your friends and their contribution to your life. Friendship helps to bring peace and positivism to the globe. Friends come in many shapes, size and guises: school friends, work colleagues, siblings, partners, neighbors. Pull out all the stops and let your friend know they are truly appreciated.
Strong friendships may be the most important stress-fighter you have. Socializing has proven health benefits, so spend time with your friends.
In the dictionary, friend noun is:
1. a person whom one knows, like and trust
2. a person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; comrade
3. one who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group
4. an acquaintance
The dictionary makes one small omission too. it doesn’t speaks of the years that a friendship endures, the laughter that fills the air when friends are together, the support, understanding and comfort a friend can offer or the anguish you cannot escape from when a friend is dying. The dictionary, I'm afraid, cannot begin to define the word: friend.
So then what is this magic called Friendship? Is there a magic wand that silently transforms you and those special people on a journey into, what sometimes can be a lifelong relationship? Is it mutual admiration, common interests, the need to be a friend? Or is it just an enduring tie that bonds you together, allows you to almost think as one and gives you one of life’s greatest joys.
Friendships are precious jewels. Treat them as such.
Enjoy them!
Celebrate them!
And never take them for granted.

“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. Friendship is one mind in two bodies.”

"Friendship is almost always the union of a part of one mind with a part of another; people are friends in spots !" ( George Santayana )

"Friendship is constant in all other things save in the office and affairs of love !" ( William Shakespeare )

"To like and dislike the same things that is true friendship !" ( Sallust )

"Love is blind ! Friendship closes its eyes !" ( A French Proverb )

Introduction :

- friends welcome each other's company and exhibit loyalty towards each other, often to the point of altruism;
- friends' tastes are usually similar and may converge, and they share enjoyable activities;
- friends engage in mutually helping behaviour, such as exchange of advice and sharing of hardships;

Development :

A. True Friendship Desires What Is Best for the Other :

- friendship is desired, searched and appreciated by all human beings, because it is grounded in a concern on the part of a human being ( a possible friend ) for the welfare of another human being ( the acquired friend ) for the other's sake;
- that is why friendship is central to the life of each one of us;
- for many people, friendship is nothing more than the trust that someone or something will not hurt them;
- value found in friendship is often the result of a friend demonstrating altruism on a consistent basis;
- altruism is the opposite of selfishness;
- altruism focuses on the motivation to help others or a want to do good without reward;
- pure altruism is giving without regard to reward or the benefits of recognition;
- probably parents are pure altruist people to their children, and the relationship parent-child is a very special one , but not the friendship in the common sense of the word ( as it is usually unidirectional, from parent to the taught child, it is more like a God-man relationship );
- to be a real friendship it has to be between equals exercising mutual altruism;

B. True Friendship Sympathizes, Empathizes, and Understands the Other's Heart's Needs :

- value that it is found in friendship is also the result of a friend demonstrating sympathy, empathy and understanding for his friend on a consistent basis;
- sympathy is a social affinity in which one person stands with another person, closely understanding his or her feelings;
- the essence of sympathy is that one has a strong concern for the other person;
- in common usage, sympathy means to become aware of another person's unhappiness and suffering;
- more than simply recognizing someone's suffering, empathy is actually sharing another's suffering ( even if this is just for a very brief period );
- when two friends understand each other up to mutual sympathy and empathy they can reach the peaks of genuine friendship;

C. True Friendship Is Always Honest, Frank and Loyal :

- value that is found in friendship is also the result of a friend demonstrating his or her honesty, frankness and loyalty on a consistent basis;
- the value of honesty is much appreciated in friendship, especially in situations where it may be difficult for other people to speak the truth, especially in terms of pointing out the perceived faults of one's counterpart;
- but the point at which friends can drop their reserve and reveal themselves to others is the point at which their relationship advances to a higher level;
- one frankness invites a reciprocal frankness;
- franknesses of the heart give friends access to mutual franknesses of each other's selves;
- constancy, fidelity and trustworthiness play a central role in loyalty;
- friendly loyalty means standing by someone despite occasions of disagreement and disapproval;
- because friendship is first about fidelities, and only afterwards about what tests fidelities;
- the component virtues of constancy and trustworthiness are especially valuable in friendship when troubles come;
- because constancy and trustworthiness are an infinitely greater comfort to anyone sleepless in the dark night of the soul than such impersonal helps as medication, "friendly" counsellors, or prayers;

Conclusion :

- friendship is not the trust that someone will not hurt me;
- friendship denotes co-operative and supportive behaviour between two or more beings;
- friendship involves mutual knowledge, esteem, and affection along with a degree of rendering service to friends in time of need or crisis;
- friendship is grounded in a concern for the welfare of the other for the other's sake, and that involves some degree of intimacy;

Medical researchers have found that those who have friends tend to be happier, healthier, and live longer than those who do not. In fact, friendship has numerous physical and spiritual benefits. It is said that friendship is good for the body and good for the soul.
Having friends is like having a family. I am lucky enough to have best friend in my life. I have someone to talk with about my problems, protect me, do their best for me, and support each other and I do the same thing for them.This is not because they are my friends, but it's because friendship is about love, need, and care each other without questioning it.
Everyone needs friends. No matter how successful you become, money worth nothing if you have no one to spend it on and enjoy it with. Maybe the greatest success of all is when we realize that it's not all about us. And maybe the greatest happiness to be found is when we share in the happiness of others.Because friends accept us for who we are, we gain the confidence to dream great dreams and to make them real. We can even trust them with our most embarrassing secrets. What a relief it is for us to reveal our true selves to someone.
There are times in each of our lives when we are in need of real help. We may be in serious trouble, we may have made a huge mistake, we may be extremely depressed, we may be very sad or we may be short of money. A true friend will be more than happy to help us in these situations, without reservation.They will not judge us and will be there to offer us advice and support. They will pick you up when you are down, they will be a shoulder to cry on when you are upset.A true friend will make time for you when you are in need of their company. They will share everything with you. They are likely to be interested in all aspects of your life and will not desert you for other people.Your best friend is your prized possession. Friends may not be valued in monetary terms, but they worth more than all your money can possibly buy. Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.
